Tashi Delek! Welcome to Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Upon arrival in Lhasa Gonggar International Airport, meet with your guide and driver and transfer to your hotel.

Spend the rest of the day resting and acclimatising to the altitude at 3,650m. Avoid altitude sickness by taking it easy, slowing down, keeping warm and drinking water frequently.

Take a glimpse into the capital city's rich cultural and religious heritage, starting with no other than Potala Palace (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the traditional residence and winter palace of the Dalai Lama (1649-1959). It takes 365 steps from Potala Gate to reach the Red Palace, which is the highest palace in the world at 3,700m. Inside, you may see Tibetan pilgrims coming from afar to this sacred site to pray.
Next, visit Jokhang Temple, another UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, renowned for its brillant architecture, art and history. Famed as the spiritual center of Tibet, the temple has been an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists from all over the world for 1300 years.
Afterwards, head back to downtown Lhasa for a stroll on busy Barkhor Street. Once a place for Buddhist kora (pilgrim circuit) in ancient times, it has now become a thriving local market where one can drink a pot of yak butter tea, dress in Tibetan clothes for photos, and of course pick up some souvenirs.

After breakfast, depart for Shigatse [approx. 340km; 8-9 hours' drive], with visits to two amazing natutal landscapes enroute.
After driving for about 200km to the Kampala Pass, make sure to have your camera ready - here you will see a breathtaking view of Yamdrok Lake with the holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar in the background. One of the four sacred lakes in Tibet, it is said to be able to help Tibetans find the reincarnated soul of the Dalai Lama.
In the afternoon, continue to one of the most beautiful glaciers in Tibet - Karola Glacier (5,012m altitude) is backed by the southern slope of Naigin Kangsang Peak, and is also the source of the eastern part of the Nianchu River.

This morning, make your way towards the Mount Everest Base Camp, while enjoying the beautiful and unique scenery of snowcapped mountain ranges, blue skies, high floating clouds and endless grasslands.
Along the way, stop by Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world and the best site to view the north side of Mt. Qomolangma (Mt. Everest), also known as the Third Pole on Earth. With both monks and nun in residence, this place used to be an area of meditation, and you can find hermitage meditation caves dotting the cliff walls all around the monastery and the valley.
Note: Due to the nature of the area, today's food and lodging is relatively basic.

Get an early start to catch the sunrise over Mount Everest this morning.
Head to Gyatso La Pass for a quick photo stop [approx. 122km // 3.5 hours], before driving back to your hotel in Shigatse [approx. 240km // 4.5 hours]. Take a shower, rest and prepare for the next day.

Breakfast in hotel and proceed to Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. Founded by the Dalai Lama in 1447, this is the largest of its kind in the Tsang Area of Tibet. Here you can also visit the traditional seat of successive Pancheon Lamas, Tibet's second-highest incarnation. Take the opportunity to hike to the top of the monastery for a stunninng bird's eye view of Shigatse City.
After the tour, take a train (2.5hr ride) or ground vehicle (5hr ride) back to Lhasa.

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and head and transfer to Lhasa Gonggar International Airport for your onward flight.

A: The best time to visit Tibet is from April to October – outside of the winter months, while the shoulder seasons of May and September/October offer clearest mountain views due to lesser rainfall and cloud cover.
