If time permits, make a stop at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a sanctuary devoted to rescued and orphaned elephants. It’s a chance to see these gentle giants up close, watch them bathe in the Maha Oya River, and gain insight into ongoing conservation efforts.
Continue your journey to the Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its five cave sanctuaries carved beneath a dramatic rock overhang. Inside, over 150 statues of Buddha, kings, and deities—along with sweeping murals—bring centuries of spiritual and artistic heritage to life.

After breakfast, embark on a day trip to Polonnaruwa, the medieval capital of Sri Lanka, and another UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its well-preserved ruins and ancient architecture. Once a thriving royal city between the 11th and 13th centuries, it showcases the grandeur of Sinhalese civilization through majestic palaces, colossal Buddha statues, and intricately carved stupas.
Visit key attractions such as the Royal Palace, Gal Vihara with its remarkable stone-carved Buddhas, the Quadrangle, and Parakrama Samudraya — a vast man-made reservoir symbolizing advanced ancient engineering.
Overnight in Dambulla.
[Breakfast / - / Dinner]
Set out at dawn for an early climb of the majestic Sigiriya Lion Rock, a rock fortress built back in the 5th century, on top of a huge boulder 180m tall. The hike consists of 1200 steps, with the first part a leisurely walk through the pleasure gardens, before one starts to climb (with two rest areas along the way).
Return to your hotel for breakfast, then check out and set off for Kandy. Along the way, visit a spice garden in Matale where scents of cinnamon, pepper, cardamom, nutmeg and mace waft through the air and offer visitors an insight into an age old industry of spice production.
Upon arrival in Kandy, begin your tour of the city - explore local markets, Upper Lake Kandy, and Kandy Town, including a visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa). Located within the royal palace complex, this buddhist temple houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha, which is believed to hold the governance of the country. Kandy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site partly due to this temple.
Check in to your hotel and spend the remaining day at leisure. Overnight in Kandy.

After an early breakfast, depart for Nuwara Eliya via Ramboda, travelling deeper into Sri Lanka’s lush hill country. Stop at Ramboda Falls, which cascades nearly 109 metres through forested cliffs. Visit the Sri Bhaktha Hanuman Temple, a spiritual retreat that offers sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and tea plantations.
Continue on a tea plantation and tea factory visit, where you’ll observe tea-pickers at work and learn about the journey from fresh leaf to world-famous Ceylon tea.
Then arrive in Nuwara Eliya, fondly known as Little England—a cool-climate hill station once favoured by British and Scottish pioneers of the tea industry. Enjoy a city tour that highlights its colonial charm and manicured landscapes. Take a leisurely stroll along Lake Gregory, a beautifully landscaped reservoir built in 1873 by Governor Sir William Gregory as part of an ambitious irrigation project. The lake, framed by misty hills, remains one of the most picturesque spots in the region.

Continue to Victoria Park, one of the most beautifully kept gardens in Sri Lanka. With its manicured lawns, colourful flowerbeds, and bird-rich pathways, it's a peaceful place for a gentle stroll and a perfect way to soak in the town’s cool, refreshing climate.
Spend the rest of the day at leisure - explore cafés, wander past colonial-style buildings, or simply unwind and enjoy the crisp mountain atmosphere.

After breakfast at the hotel, leave the cool highlands behind and travel south toward the wild landscapes of Yala.

Yala is Sri Lanka’s premier reserve for viewing leopards, elephants, and sloth bears, and is home to around 215 bird species, including several endemics, as well as 44 species of mammals.
After your safari, check in to your hotel and spend the evening at leisure.

Depending on the route, you may also enjoy a natural “fish spa,” a uniquely local experience.
Continue to the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, a conservation project dedicated to protecting Sri Lanka’s sea turtles. Learn how rescued eggs are incubated, how hatchlings are cared for, and—if the timing aligns—even witness the magical moment of releasing baby turtles back into the ocean.
