Upon arrival in Colombo International Airport, meet with your airport representative and transfer to Kandy, which was once the capital of the 16th century Kandyan Kings for 300 years before it eventually fell to the British in 1815.

Make a stop at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a sanctuary that cares for rescued and orpharned elephants. Visitors can observe these gentle giants up close, watch them bathe in the nearby Maha Oya River, and learn about conservation efforts.
Proceed on a city tour of Kandy and explore the local markets, lake area and Kandy Town, including a visit to the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic). Located within the royal palace complex, this buddhist temple houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha, which is believed to hold the governance of the country. Kandy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site partly due to this temple.

Breakfast in hotel and transfer to Nuwara Eliya, also known as 'Little England'. Once the favoured cool-climate escape for the English and Scottish pionners of Sri Lanka's tea industry, this highland community showcases colonial-ear bungalows, Tudor-style hotels and well-tended hengderows.
Visit the Seetha Amman Temple, a sacred hindu temple dedicated to Princess Sita, who was believed to have been kept captive at this site by King Ravana. Folklore has it that the stream at the nearby Hakgala Botanical Gardens was where the princess bathed herself.
Continue to Victoria Park, a public park built to commemorate Queen Victoria's 60th year on the throne in 1897. Take a stroll along the beautifully-landscaped Lake Gregory, constructed by the British Governor of Ceylon Sir william Gregory in 1873 as part of a project to improve the irrigation system in the area.

Madu River Safari - cruise through the scenic mangroves of the Madu River, spot exotic wildlife, visit small islands, and experience a unique fish spa.
Visit the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, a facility dedicated to sea turtle conservation efforts, including a chance to release baby turtles into the ocean.
Finally, try out some watersport acitivities such as jetskiing, banana boat riding, parasailing or windsurfing in the calm waters of Bentota Lagoon.

A: Generally, the best time to visit the West and South coasts of Sri Lanka is between October to March. During these months, the weather is sunny and rainfall is minimal. Avoid October to January (Maha monsoon season) if you plan to extend your trip to the East and the North.
