Upon arrival to Hanoi Airport, proceed on a city tour of Vietnam's capital city of Hanoi (morning arrival recommended).
Start at the largest freshwater lake in Hanoi - West Lake, with an islet that sits the Tran Quoc Pagoda. It is the oldest Buddhist temple in Hanoi dating back to the 6th century, known for its 11-storey stupa and the sacred Bodhi tree next to it.
Continue to Ban Dinh Square, where the Presidential Palace, One Pillar Pagoda and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum - the final resting place of Ho Chi Minh - are located.
Soak in the energy at 36 Old Quarters, a cluster of bustling ancient streets characterized by its unique 'tube houses'. Here, one can find street food, hidden cafes in old villas and courtyards, or shop for traditional crafts and souvenirs.

After breakfast today, set off for Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site [approx. 160km // 3.5hr drive]. The drive goes through the Red River Delta, your first opportunity to see some rural areas of Vietnam, such as farmers tilling vast green paddy fields.
Upon arrival, embark your Halong Bay cruise and enjoy a welcome drink during the cruise introduction. Enjoy lunch while admiring the fascinating rock formations in Bai Tu Long Bay. Later in the afternoon, join a guided cave visit in the bay.
Return to your cruise and enjoy the sunset, before watching a cooking demonstration with the chef on board, followed by dinner. Free time afterwards to try squid-fishing, enjoy some karaoke, or simply relax in your cabin.

Welcome a new day with an amazing dawn and option to participate in an early-morning tai-chi session on the sundeck, and enjoy breakfast on board.
Embark on a climb up a nearby island to enjoy stunning, panoramic views of the Bay. Take the opportunity to also relax on the beachor swim in the emerald waters, before returning to the cruise to freshen up.
Disembark the cruise after lunch, and proceed towards the city to watch a Vietnamese water puppet show. A skit now performed in pools within theatres, these performances traditionally took place in flooded rice fields. Through the show, learn about rural Vietnamese life, folklore, and historical legends.

Today, Breakfast at hotel and depart for the province of Ninh Binh. Visit Bich Dong Temple, a stunning ancient Buddhist complex built into limestone mountains.depart for Luang Prabang on a leisurely drive through an astonishing landscape of limestone karst. Visit a few villages enroute.
After lunch, take a Sampan ride along the stream to visit Tam Coc River while taking in the views of the dramatic karst mountains rising abruptly from the flat rice fields.
Transfer back to Hanoi, and make a stop at the Opera House, an important symbol of independence for Vietnam - it was from its balcony that the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was proclaimed, after the Auguest Revolution.

The best time to visit northern Vietnam is during spring (March-April) or autumn (September-November) for pleasant, mild temperatures, low rainfall, clear skies, and stunning scenery, ideal for both city exploration and outdoor activities. In particular, October to November usually has calm waters in Halong Bay.
